Reconstruction
of this First Grade National Historic Building
complex was authorised in 1989. The masterplan
was prepared after extensive research and surveys.
Included in the context was the re-establishment
of the Tang Dynasty Zen Temple, and the inclusion
of modern day requirements of a Buddhist institution
as well as social facilities.

A
master plan submitted to government for amendment to
the outline development plan in order to facilitate
the expansion of the Chi Lin Nunnery. After approval
in 1990, the Home for the elderly, Zen Temple, and School
is being implemented in 3 phases.

The
project consists of a masterplan to unify the growth
of this famous Taoist establishment, which includes
a temple, meditation chambers, exhibition galleries,
and the administration of Taoist exchange programmes.
Facilities are also provided for day tours to the Taoist
centre in appreciation of the gardens and vegetarian
food.
